Judith Levine

Judith Levine promotes her new book “Not Buying It: My Year Without Shopping” in which she notices that entertainment in America is predicated on spending money. Our public entertainment outlets, such as parks, libraries, etc., are generally underfunded and/or in poor condition.

Interview

LA Times Book Review

A new beginning

My life has been in much upheaval the last several months. I’ve left a job, started a new one (causing a much needed work wardrobe sprucing), started a monster commute, changed my blog-world-view, and am preparing to move in the next 3 months. Thought I snuck that one in there, but I can’t put anything past you can I?

I’ve decided that while it might be an interesting exercise in restraint, and like the rest of America I do need some consumption restraint, delineating my daily purchases just doesn’t make very interesting reading. It fails, in a meaningful way, to address the larger issues and points that I find interesting. Plus, it’s downright difficult to keep up with.

Therefore, starting today, I will begin posting again on a semi-regular basis (I’m aiming for every week or so). I will be linking to interesting reading, materials, and making a continued argument for conscientious consumption. As part of the world I need to make my purchases with an idea of what the consequences of my actions may be.
